When time, travel, and money make face to face tutoring unmanageable, I tutor using SKYPE a video chat program plus a mutual virtual whiteboard.
Students enjoy using the computer as the medium and parents like the convenience of saving time driving to appointments
Q and A about long distance tutoring.
Q: What technology is needed?
A: You need a computer with a good connection.
I will send you information about the two programs needed. We will then be able to see each other's face and use the same blackboard by using an online video program, such as SKYPE and a whiteboard on the site www.GroupBoard.com.
Q: Isn't it hard to work without being in the same room?
A: My students adjust quickly. I take this into account and plan an extra 10 minutes in the first session so that we can adjust to the technology tools.
I will review the icon tools on the GroupBoard, we will set up our cameras so we can see each other simultaneously.
That is all it takes to get used to the new format.
